Closing the Teach For America Blogging Gap

Eve of my 1st day as a teacher…

I feel pretty awful that I haven’t kept this blog up, but I fully intend on getting better at it! So much has happened in the past three months! I was hired at a charter school as a math teacher. I’m in a pretty non traditional placement. I’ll be teaching adults who dropped out of high school. They will be coming back to school to earn their high school diploma. The school model is the first of its kind. If you want more information about the school let me know! I will also not be working a typical 7:30-2:30 pm/9 months type schedule. I will be working 12 months and nights/weekends. I am definitely going to have more than enough work to keep busy. :)

Hopefully I’ll have lots to share after my first day, which is tomorrow. I don’t think I have ever been so nervous for a 1st day of school. It’s a really important day, not only for me, but for my students. I hope that I’m able to provide a safe and welcoming classroom to learn math (Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry) that many of them never experienced in high school. And I hope that I am able to help each and every one of my students be successful in earning their high school diploma.

Wish me luck!
